There are lots of different kinds of headaches such as medicine or caffeine withdrawal headaches, cluster headaches, stress/tension headaches, blood pressure headaches, etc. Migraines start with the release of serotonin, which a substance stored in blood plateletes, when it is released, blood vessels constrict. Serotonin is removed from the body by the kidneys which depletes the normal level in the body, it causes blood vessels to dilate, in return causing pain in the surrounding nerves. There are classic and common migraines. The common migraine comes on slowly with tiredness, cravings, yawning, irritability, etc. Common migraines are on one side of the head. Classic migraines come in stages, aura, headache, and postheadache. The best things you can do for the migraines are to relax, rest, ice the base of your skull, hot pack on your upper back in a dark room. Some other therapies include massage, biofeedback, accupressure/accupuncture, and chiropractic. You might also try menthol creams rubbed in the neck/base of the skull. Some find that muscle spasms cause blood vessels to constrict and a hot pack on the neck can help also relieve. It's a hit and miss, when you find what works, stick to it. Hormones, diet, allergies, lack of sleep can all be migraine triggers, so be sure you eat healthy, get enough sleep and beware of allergy triggers. For hormonal headaches, sometimes taking ibuprofen can help. Be sure to drink enough water. For upset stomaches that go hand in hand with migraines, try tea, gingerale, peppermint candies. My father suffers migraines and it took us years and trying alot of things to see what worked. For him, chiropractic adjustment, ibuprofen, hot pack and rest work the best. Hope that helps.
References :
First off, you have to be sure you have true migraines. My doctor gave me Fioricet to kill the migraines. It's not used for daily headaches though. I would talk to your ob at your next visit and see how he feels. Lots of luck sweetheart!
References :
I have migraines so badly that I pass out and vomit. My doctor gave me Fioricet to kill the migraines. It's not used for daily headaches though. Comment on How do you get rid of frequent headaches? by dbgyog http://www.migraineheadachetips.net/headaches/how-do-you-get-rid-of-frequent-headaches#comment-1021 dbgyog Sun, 30 Nov 2008 11:35:59 +0000 http://www.migraineheadachetips.net/headaches/how-do-you-get-rid-of-frequent-headaches#comment-1021 There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic. Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it. Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see. Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole. Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk with sugar at bed time preferably or meals, rice and good sleep will help you. But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong. Comment on What's the best way to ease the pain of migraine? by NeuroProf http://www.migraineheadachetips.net/migraine-pain/whats-the-best-way-to-ease-the-pain-of-migraine#comment-1035 NeuroProf Sun, 30 Nov 2008 11:31:59 +0000 http://www.migraineheadachetips.net/migraine-pain/whats-the-best-way-to-ease-the-pain-of-migraine#comment-1035 The first line is NSAIDS, aspirin if you can tolerate it, along with caffeine-at least as much as in a cup of strong coffee (caffieine is a co-analgesic). In the absence of taking any pills... Migraines are often the result of allergies, especially to certain foods, so keep careful track of your daily activities, including food intake. Regular exercise, a good diet, and especially pletny of sleep are critical. Some people actually require quite a bit more sleep than average, up to 10-11 hours a day. Dont force yourself to get only 8 hours just because that's average. If you need more, and arent getting it, you will suffer a myriad of negative effects. Keeping your stress level down, your physical fitness and nutrition up, and getting plenty of rest is probably more effective than most drugs out there. In addition, if you drink coffee regularly, going even a day without it can cause a severe headache- So, with the advice above, be sure you keep a careful log of everything you eat and drink, and your sleep, and see if you can find something that is triggering your migraines.
References :
The first line is NSAIDS, aspirin if you can tolerate it, along with caffeine-at least as much as in a cup of strong coffee (caffieine is a co-analgesic).
